Around 1500BC, shaft graves were replaced by beehive-shaped tombs called tholo. The picture on the left shows the entrance to a tholos in Mycenae which is known as the ‘Treasury of Atreus’ after the legendary Mycenaean king called Atreus. It was constructed around 1250BC.
